Introducing the Peppermint Milton Pinafore

Delphine (Sewing Tidbits)

Dear readers,

I have a big surprise for you today! In May, I was contacted and commissioned by the team at Peppermint Magazine to help develop a pattern for their free pattern initiative. While I have collaborated with other magazines, this felt extra special since we worked together from the design stage to the final pattern files. Of course, because of tight deadlines and the fact that we had to ship things between France and Australia, there was some drama (I may or may not have broken into the mailbox of my neighbours on holidays to retrieve 3 meters of Spoonflower fabric delivered wrongly 😅). Still, it was an enjoyable process, and I loved working with the Peppermint Team!

Let me introduce you to the Peppermint Milton Pinafore :

With its relaxed shape, clean lines and low V-neckline, the Peppermint Milton Pinafore is perfect for layering over t-shirts, turtlenecks and blouses. I love to wear mine over a Tyra Tee, so to celebrate the launch of the Pinafore, Tyra is also 20% off! The dress features an open back with two straps crossing and buttoning inside the waistband. It's midi-length A-line skirt has back darts for shaping, generous inseam pockets and a fully buttoned back.

The Pepppermint sample was made in mid-weight cotton twill sponsored by Spoonflower in this lovely denim print by Holli Zollinger. My sample is cut in a wool/viscose blend that has a nice weight and structure to it but is absolute hell to work with, since it frays a lot! For this pattern, I recommend mid to heavy weight fabrics suitable for bottoms such as mid-weight linen, denim, twill, wool and lightweight coatings. The bib and straps are fully lined with self fabric. If your fabric is heavy weight it is possible to choose a lighter weight fabric for the inner bib and inner straps, e.g. cotton lawn, viscose, acetate lining

This sewing pattern is available in the size range 34 to 60, with a B/C cup for the 34-46 size range and a DD cup for the 46-60 range. Both ranges are drafted for a height of 5’5”/1m65. The instructions include step-by-step instructions. It’s not a difficult sew, but if you need help, I curate a list of helpful tutorials on the resource page!

The format of the files is a little different to meet the Peppermint Requirements, but like my other patterns, the Peppermint Milton Pinafore includes:

  • a layered PDF pattern in printing options for each of the two size ranges: print at home (compatible for letter and A4), and A0;

  • a Cutter’s must (a summary table of the pattern pieces and cutting information);

  • a PDF layout;

  • Just Patterns’ signature order of construction;

  • and step-by-step illustrated instructions.

I’m delighted to have had this opportunity to provide a free pattern to the sewing community. If you have followed me in the early days of my blog, you will know that my very very first pattern was a free one (it was a pencil skirt, maybe one day I can find the time to bring it back?). I hope you will enjoy sewing Milton. Don’t forget to tag @peppermintmagazine, #PeppermintMiltonPinafore, #peppermintpatterns and @just-patterns if you post on social media!

Happy sewing!
